School Admissions

Please click here to access the Surrey County Council School Admission website.  If you are applying for an in-year place please click here.

The Surrey County Council leaflet is sent out by the school to parents who have completed our own admission form.  Caroline Johnstone in the school office can help with any queries on 01342 842010.

If there are more than 60 applicants, after the admission of any children with an Education, Health and Care Plan which names this school, places will be allocated according to the criteria set out below. These are stated in order of priority:

1. Looked after children or previously looked after children, including children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.

2. Children with an exceptional and professionally supported medical or social need for a place at this school.

3. Children of a member of staff.

4. Children who will have brothers and/or sisters, living at the same address, in the school at the date of admission.

5. Any other applicant.

At Burstow we invite all the pupils who will be starting in a particular academic year to attend school from the beginning of September. Pupils whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September and 31st August will attend full time, however, full time attendance at school is not statutory until after the child is five.

New children, and their parents, are invited to visit the school and to spend an afternoon in school during the term preceding their arrival. We offer parents the opportunity of a home visit by a Reception Class Teacher. These visits enable pupils and staff to get to know each other in familiar surroundings. Reception pupils have a phased start to the academic year to aid the settling process.

Our Prospective Parent Open Days are held in October.

Nursery Admissions

Children can start at Burstow School's Pre-School the term after they turn 3 years old.

Nursery Admissions - 15 and 30 hours free childcare for 3 and 4-year-olds

All 3 to 4 year olds in England can get free early education or childcare. All children in England get 570 free hours per year. These hours are offered at Burstow as three options of 15 hours a week for 38 weeks of the year. You can get this childcare from the term after your child’s 3rd birthday.

The first option is:

Monday 9:00 – 15:00 Tuesday 9:00 – 15:00 Wednesday 9:00 – 12:00

The second is:

Wednesday 12:00 – 15:00 Thursday 9:00 – 15:00 Friday 9:00 – 15:00

Many working parents will be entitled to 30 hours free childcare which is offered at Burstow as

The Department for Education has produced a fact sheet called ‘Will I qualify for 30 hours free childcare?’ which explains the criteria that parents need to meet.  Click here to access the form.

Parents need to apply through the government’s Childcare Choices website at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk. If you're eligible, you'll be given an 11 digit code and will be told when you can start taking your funded hours.

Once you have your code you need to complete a 30 hour free childcare eligibility from and return it to the school office.  Please see below to access the eligibility form.

You will hear if place is available for your child half a term before they are due to start in the Nursery.
