At Burstow Primary School, children in Year 3 take part in swimming lessons for one term as part of our PE curriculum. This supports the expectations set out in the National Curriculum for Physical Education, which requires that by the end of Key Stage 2, all pupils should be able to swim at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively, and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. Swimming lessons are delivered by qualified instructors at Horley Leauisre Centre, with appropriate supervision to ensure all children are safe and supported. We aim to build confidence in the water, promote water safety awareness, and ensure all children have the opportunity to develop this essential life skill.
