Our Governors

Hello,

My name is Claire Creed and I am the Chair of the Governors here at Burstow School.

Since joining the Everychild Partnership Trust in May 2024, we are now known as the Local Governing Body.

School Governors are the largest group of volunteers in the country and as a Local Governing Body our responsibilities are strategic and are delegated to us by the Board of Trustees through a Scheme of Delegation, broadly summarised as:

  • Setting the aims and objectives for the school
  • Setting the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Setting the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
  • Being a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher (a critical friend)

The composition of the local governing body (subject to exceptions approved by the Trust Board) will be
• Headteacher (ex-officio)
• One staff member elected by the staff at the school
• Two parent members elected by parents at the school
• Six co-opted members nominated by the Local Governing Body and approved by the Trust Board.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a governor please contact the Clerk clerk@burstow.surrey.sch.uk

The role of those serving on the Local Governing Body is an important one, fulfilling the Trust’s mission and providing feedback to the Trustees of the Trust. Those serving on the Local Governing Body must act independently and in the best interest of the schools and the Trust, whilst recognising that the school is
part of a family of schools run by the Trust each with collective responsibility. They will act as ambassadors of the schools and the Trust and must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the ethos and values of the Trust and a commitment to fulfilling the Trust’s mission and objectives for the schools, using their skills and experience and drawing on specialist skills where required.
