Third Space Maths Learning

What is Third Space Learning?

Third Space Learning are Maths specialists. Our tutors provide one-to-one support for pupils at primary school, helping teachers to raise attainment and create confident learners.

How Third Space Learning works

Every week children receive a one-to-one 45-minute Maths session with their own personal tutor in our secure online classroom. The topic for each lesson is chosen by their Class Teacher and the child works with the same tutor over the course of the term. The tutors provide a friendly and engaging environment, allowing the children to ask questions, clarify misunderstandings and build knowledge and confidence at their own pace. The sessions take place on the school computers, where the pupil and the tutor communicate over a headset and microphone (but do not see each other). There is a fully trained Burstow staff member in the room at all times.

How we use Third Space Learning at Burstow

Third Space Learning is currently used in Year 5 and Year 6 and is an additional Maths ‘booster’ session. It allows pupils to explore mathematical concepts at their own pace and encourages them to explain and clarify their thinking. It has been used successfully to bridge ‘gaps’ in learning, consolidate understanding and provide further challenge for our higher skilled learners.
